Mary Peterson came to Smith County, Kansas in the 1870’s with her five children, the oldest being John. Seven generations later, we proudly steward many pieces of land that our ancestors homesteaded and raise Corn, Soybeans, Wheat, and Angus Beef Cattle.
Brothers Brent and Brian started farming together as children, using toy tractors and plastic animals. As they grew their father and grandfather taught them to operate farm equipment and care for 4-H and FFA animals. In high school they took on more responsibility following some accidents where their father was unable to physically do the work of farming. After attending college at Kansas State University, both brothers came home to grow the family farm.
Brent and Brian strive to make wise, proactive stewardship decisions while analyzing the financial, agronomic, animal health, soil health and legacy impacts of those decisions. In 2023 sister Dana joined the team and brought her business management, strategy, and data management skills to the team.
Our farm headquarters and seed warehouse are in Bellaire, Kansas, where our great grandfather's mechanic shop still stands. We're blessed with the privilege of operating cropland and pastureland for extended family members and other family friends in the Womer, Cora, Bellaire, White Rock, and Lebanon areas of Smith County, Kansas.
We support several community initiatives because we recognize, just as our homesteading ancestors did, that we can't succeed without strong a strong community around us.
We strive to take care of this beautiful land as it has provided for our family and many others. We focus on building soil health and strong herd genetics that will be productive now, but also into the future. Several years ago, we went entirely no-till and are constantly learning about and implementing new technologies while relying on time-tested strategies like manure application. The new technologies include plant nutrition, soil biologics, soil compaction scanning, fertilizer placement, as well as product placement and timing.
Brother Brent and Dana live north of Lebanon. His passion is watching animals and crops grow. He enjoys turning out cow-calf pairs into the pasture in the spring.
Sister Dana lives in Smith Center. She is a consultant with Growing Leaders Group LLC and a strategic advisor for farms and ag businesses with Bridgeforth LLP. She runs our business office and keeps our farm data useful.
Brother Brian and Sherri live near Bellaire. His passion is growing crops and improving soil health. His happy place is in the tractor, combine, excavator, or bulldozer.
We are strongly tied to the land. Whether it's for crop or livestock production, we steward the land and soils so that this beautiful land will continue to be productive for generations to come.
We grow corn, soybeans, wheat and feed crops. We are no-till and are constantly learning about and implementing new technologies that can benefit the land for the long-term.
We grow high quality beef calves with our herd of Angus cows and bulls from our cousins at Benoit Angus of Esbon, Kansas.
